Domain Management for web hosting

The next big thing you have to do after purchasing a domain name is to setup your domain name so that the domain will point to the IP address of your website.

There 're two option of setting up your domain name.

  • Use Domain management tools to point your domain name to the IP address of your web hosting
  • Change Domain Name server to the web hosting 's domain server

Either of these two option could point our domain name to our web hosting.

1th option: Point the domain name to the IP address of web hosting

First we have to know what IP address should our domain name point to, we can obtain the IP information from our web hosting provider. The web hosting company usually provide us the IP address of your website when we purchase hosting package from the web hosting company.

So the next step is to login your domain provider 's website . usually there 's a place call domain manager, in the domain manager , we could manage and change our domain setting.

click the "detail" in blue, we could have an overview of this domain. and here 's what you see

Continue to click the "Total DNS control MX Record", finally we come to the place for IP address management .

For pointing your domain to the IP address of your website, the easist things is to modify the ARecord "@", which representing your domain. in our website , the "@" is actually the representation of "iniu.net".

If you do not want to setup sub-domain, and that 's all for all the modification. if you have sub-domain. you will have to setup ARecord or CNAMES.

2th option: Change Domain Name Server

Name Server is the real place which turn the domain query to actual IP address,

instead of modifing the IP address in the domain manager(which will be stored at the domain provider's Name Server), We could also change our domain 's Name Server to our web hosting provider 's Name Server, This has some advantage over the modifing IP address directly that if our web hosting provider change our web hosting IP address, Its Name Server will automatically change our domain to the new IP address while using the first option above, We have to modify the IP address in the domain manager manually!
