An interesting phenomenon

In the country I work, There 's some interesting phenomenon that whenever a new version of Oracle database appear, some customer will select the previous version for their project.

This phenomenon happens too when 11g is released. these customers begin to select 10g or 10gR2 for their projects. It is easy to understand that people do not want to be

'first person to try tomato'.

But is there any undisputable reason to use the new version of Oracle database?

Why use the new version?

1. The first reason is related to business, We all know that Oracle have a version support time span for each database version. if you do not use the current version, there might be de-support issue in the future after a few years unless we upgrade it to a supported version.
   
   
   
   
   But of course, this is not the vital reason, for any version of Oracle database, the support time span is actuall long enough for most of us, and we could always upgrade to the newer version when we 're prepared.
   
   
   
   
   But some customer is afraid to upgrade their production database and hope they could select the database version and do nothing ever after.
   
   
2. The second reason is technology oriented. newer version of oracle database do have some useful features that we need.
   
   
   
   
   For example, the introduction of the crs of 10g make it unneccessary to buy cluster software. and it could save us a lot of bucks
   
   
   
   
   Another trend of the database version is toward the auto-managed database which could fine-tune itself automatically . So the newer version might be easier to manage and troubleshoot. this could be an important reason too!

I will investigate features of 11g and list the useful features to see if it is worth to use the new version for technology advance!
